FRIDAY FUN STEM DAY; EVERY FRIDAY WE WILL WORK ON A STEM PROJECT. FOR THIS FRIDAY UPCOMING ON 9/25 OUR STEM PROJECT IS THE ELEVATOR CHALLENGE.
If you have ever taken a ride on
an elevator, you probably
noticed that there are lots of
small machines at work.
For this project, you will design
an elevator using household
items. The goal is to use the
elevator without it breaking or
without having any items fall
Your elevator should have the
• A holder – this is the part of the elevator that holds things (e.g., what are you trying
to carry or transport?)
• A platform – this is the part of the elevator that serves as the base of the holder
• A crank – this is the part of the elevator that controls how things are lifted, as well
as how high up things can go
Suggested Materials: PLEASE BRING IN ON 9/25. GATHER ONLY HOUSEHOLD ITEMS, PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANYTHING.
• Rubber bands
• Popsicle sticks
• Paper towel rolls
• Other things you can test on your elevator
